Founded in 1997, it was founded by Yan Zhiwen, a Hakka musician who graduated from the Berklee College of Music in the United States. It is the first performance group to devote itself to the creation of Hakka new music.
In 1997, he released his first Hakka-language creative album “Sei, Who Stands Up and Sings Folk Songs” on the friendly dog record company, which opened the opportunity for Hakka new music to flourish in Taiwan for more than 20 years. At that time, I followed Yan Zhiwen to travel all over Taiwan’s big cities and small towns, and was even invited to tour the United States and Canada.
In 2008, Yan Zhiwen recruited outstanding musicians of the younger generation to form a new group – New SanGeuTai Band, to welcome the new generation’s music outlook with a more lively and open vision. Let the band’s performances and creations be richer and more diverse.
In addition to the Hakka-based lyrics, the music genres of the band are quite diverse, ranging from folk songs with strong local colors, solid rock, blues full of nostalgia and even jazz that emphasizes improvisation. Exploration, and the retrospect and re-creation of traditional ballads are the persistence of the band for many years. In recent years, the band has extensively cooperated with musicians in different fields to create more Hakka new music.
SanGeuTai has become one of the most representative bands of Hakka music. So far, it has published 15 CD albums and has been shortlisted for several Golden Melody Awards. Many songs have been selected as school mother tongue teaching materials and are widely sung among the people.
In 2023, won the Best Hakka Language Album at the 34th Golden Melody Awards with the album <Yam Fun Yeu>!

成立於1997年，由畢業於美國柏克利音樂學院的留美客籍音樂家顏志文創辦，為最早投入客家新音樂創作的表演團體。
1997年在友善的狗唱片公司發表首張全客語的創作專輯〝係，麼人佇个唱山歌〞，開啟客家新音樂二十多年來在台灣蓬勃發展的契機，同年成立的山狗大樂團從那時開始隨著顏志文跑遍台灣的大城小鎮，更受邀到美加地區巡迴。
2008年顏志文招集年輕世代的優秀音樂人組成新的團體—山狗大後生，以更為活潑開放的視野迎接新一代的音樂觀，身兼團長的主唱林鈺婷優質的嗓音和從容的台風，讓樂團的演出和創作更為豐富多樣。
除了歌詞以客語為主外，樂團涉獵的音樂類型相當多元，從在地色彩濃厚的民謠、結構扎實的搖滾、充滿鄉愁的藍調乃至強調即興的爵士，都在不同的曲目或專輯做過深入探索，而對傳統歌謠的回溯和再創作更是樂團多年來的堅持。近年來樂團廣泛的和不同領域的音樂人跨界合作，共同激盪融合出更多面向的客家新音樂。
山狗大已成為客家音樂最具代表性的樂團之一，累計出版15張CD專輯，入圍多次金曲獎，許多歌曲被選為學校母語教材，在民間的傳唱度廣泛。2023年以<簷風謠>專輯榮獲第34屆金曲獎 最佳客語專輯！
